Earn.. Tithe.. Save
Summer is over, tomorrow my kids will go back to school after a week of postponement because of A(H1N1). During summer, wifey and I taught our kids three important lessons:
To earn.. to honor God with the tithe…and to save money.
At the start of vacation, I asked my kids (ages 11 and 9) what they can do passionately. They opted to sell “ice candy”. So they experimented on different flavors before they finally launch the product By being the first consumers, soon, all the kids in different buildings became aware of this goodies. My kids produce and sell ice candy for more than a month.
As they earn, my kids also return 10% of their earnings to God every week. And last Saturday, their accumulated profit were added to their savings account.
We thought of these activities to teach our kids to be entrepreneurial since our educational system is geared towards finding a good job and be a good employee. Unless the parents are entrepreneurs themselves, kids may not develop the instinct to create wealth. This was also the observation of a seasoned entrepreneur I happen to talk with.
Though saving can be taught in school, but the best way to teach this is by doing. By keeping their own passbook, they are being encouraged to see their money growing.
On the contrary, tithing can not be taught unless you teach this by example. My kids are witnesses to my wife and myself’s lifestyle of tithing, and giving. And to see them bring their tithe and offering in the altar, cause delight in my heart.

well said: tithing can be taught by example.
children should emanate how we, parents, live by what the word says, “for we are not only hearers, but doers of the word”.
I like this! Thanks.
