Managing Your Finances To The Next Level

Promote Your Brand

When you’re at work, your performance is your brand. If you’re a student, your grade is your brand. If you’re a parent, how you raise your kid is your brand. If you’re a father/husband, how you lead your family is your brand. If you’re a blogger, your blog is your brand.

One need not have a large corporation to get conscious about brand management. If you want to protect your reputation as a person, that is brand management. If you’re a blogger, though you are monetizing your blog, but you select and chose your advertisers, that’s already brand management.

A brand is what people remember about a product, i.e. what comes to your mind when you hear the word Viagra? Or what people remember about you or your blog? If one would like to be two steps ahead, then promoting one’s brand is the first plan. A good brand coupled with a good promotional campaign will lead to greater earning opportunities.

How do we promote our brand?

This is with the assumption that you already know what you (or your product or your blog) would like to be known for. Remember, there are so many blogs out there that are competing for attention. So are job hunters competing for a few job opportunities. So how do we get their attention?

FOCUS

In career management, be determined to grow in your chosen field and do not be a job or company hopper. Leaving a job or a company before the 2nd year is a turn off to most head hunters.

In blog management, be relevant to your chosen niche. You may be blogging about anything under the sun but discuss your views from the context of who you are so your readers can distinguish your brand from the rest. Like this blog, for instance, I don’t limit my discussion in one niche, but when I blog about anything, I provide an insight from the point of view of a Human Resource Manager, living in the Philippines and a believer of Jesus Christ. That’s what I would like to be known for, that’s my brand.

LOGO DESIGN

You may find this silly, but this is important. Superman has S inside an inverted triangle. Whenever we see the logo/symbol, we know it’s the man of steel. On the other hand, though two car companies use H in their logo, you can still distinguish each brand from the other. The normal H is for Honda, the italic H is for Hyundai. The color of a logo can also be associated with a brand. For instance, blue, red, yellow and green is associated with Google.

Our logo represents our brand, therefore, if we want a permanent recall of our blog, we should be consistent. Whenever people sees your logo/banner, they’ll know it’s you, they’ll recognize your brand. For example, when I find a blog interesting but for one reason or another, I failed to bookmark or subscribe to it’s rss or email, all I’ll do is visit my Entrecard dashboard and look for the logo/banner. That’s brand recall.

I find it deceiving for some bloggers who regularly change their logo with the hope of attracting more clicks. Others, on the other hand will add irrelevant image to their logo but it has nothing to do with their brand. An image of food may likely represent a logo for a food blog, pen for writers, computers for geeks, appararels for fashion blogs. But a picture of voluptuous woman for a girly blog? Not necessarily.

Got my point?

Now on creating logos, we have several options. We can search the net and find free services to assist us in making one, output may not be as professional as we want to be. If you, however, is a photoshop expert, this will not be a problem but this may take some time. We can also ask someone to do it for us. There are several softwares, however, designed for creating logos. There is one that claims to make the logo creation process easy and entertaining, just like preparing an instant noodle. The software is The Logo Creator by Laughing Bird Software.

From the box, the developer have pre designed logos, but it also gave users the freedom to customize existing ones or create a new design. 7 different editions are available for sale, (1) corporate, (2) business mascot, (3) travel and leisure, (4) entertainment, (5) spiritual, (6) real estate and (7) sports. A mega offer where the 7 different editions can be bought in bundle. The developer believe the logos is not of push over quality, rather one that can be used professionally and outside blogging. The developer even believe that prospective buyers can run a logo creation business with the software. You may check the details of the product and sample of the logos at www.thelogocreator.com

so where then is your logo? do you think it is necessary for a non-pro blogger to create a logo for his blog?

  3. Sonnie says:

    Hi Bingskee,

I consider my self non-pro since I still have my daytime work. This badge (logo or symbol) is what I use across blogosphere and social networking services.
