We started the year with a series on HR 2.0, and we are attempting to establish whether the Human Resources Division can use web 2.0 applications in the performance of it’s duties.
On our first issue, we defined what web 2.0 is, to bring all of us together in common understanding. As a review, web 2.0 consists of three pieces, namely:
Rich Internet Applications (RIA)– this simply means bringing your desktop experience into the browser, i.e. drag and drop
Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)– part of SOA, is feeds and RSS wherein it makes your subscription experience pleasant
Social Web — As a non geek, this is the only piece that we can relate to because this is the end product wherein we, the end user becomes an integral part. These services include video and audio/podcast sharing like Youtube, Social Media like Facebook and LinkedIn, Blogs like Wordpress and Blogspot and Micro blogging like Twitter.
As a Human Resource practitioner, we will not concern ourselves with the 1st two pieces because only the 3rd piece can affect our work. Well, if you don’t agree with me on this, just tell me if you don’t have admin cases that is related to use of social media.
Dear friends and corporate people, as I shared in my personal blog, I will be active in writing again, and hopefully do some podcast and webcast along the way. And there is no better way to do it than start a blog series about HR 2.0.
HR 2.0 talks about the 2 dimensions of HR transformation. 1st, the cross over from the traditional HR silos– administrative and employee champion to strategic HR and change agent. And the 2nd , the acceptance of web 2.0 as productivity tool for Human Resource Management.
The objective of this series is not to discuss about strategic HR, but to explore the opportunities presented by web 2.0. We will start things slow to make sure we all see each other in the eye, and we are in the same language.
On this chapter, we will only discuss what web 2.0 is. I will be sharing 2 videos, the 1st one is about understanding web 2.0 in layman’s term and the 2nd one, the technical definition. Here is the first video

Social Media is the use of Internet tools such as Internet Networking Web Sites, Blogs, Micro Blogs and Forums to develop user created content, interact as a community, build relationships and exchange ideas and opinions with those of similar interests. Social Media is about people.
Social media is associated with new media. Example of these sites, as mentioned above, are blogs from wordpress, blospot and others, social networking sites like Facebook, Multiply, Friendster; photo sharing site like Flicker, video sharing site like YouTube and microblogging sites like Twitter and Plurk.
Some companies have regarded these as an enemy of productivity. So these sites, and many more, are blocked from employee access. In some cases, most employees don’t even have access to the internet.
The blogger is a Human Resource Management Executive and Micro Entrepreneur.
He does lecture and consulting work for the integration of (1) "Spiritual Intelligence" in Organizational and Human Resource Management and Development, and (2) "Web 2.0" as platform and tool for Corporate communication, Productivity, Training/ People Development, Marketing and Brand Management.
