Spamming And Personal Branding

One of the tips I am hearing from so called “personal branding gurus” to enhance your brand is to assert your expertise on people.

Promoting yourself, so to speak. While this is not necessarily bad, one must take extra precaution because too much of these can back fire and may actually do more harm than good.

Self promotion includes promoting your work accomplishments, articles and  blog entries  to social networking sites and list servs like yahoo groups. But these acts is venturing into unsolicited mail, or commonly known as “spamming”.

Are You A Commodity Or Brand?

Are you a brand or a commodity? commodity?

I came across an article at Inquirer.net written by Karen de Asis about commodities and brands. While it talks about products and services, I would like to explore how it can be applied in Personal Branding

Marketing a commodity is something temporary, after it reaches the intended market, it settles down. But marketing a brand is permanent. It looks beyond the immediate accomplishment, it strives to  to evolve and adopts the changes in the market.

Now how do we apply this to our personal brand?

“HappySlip Campaign reaps dividend for RP”

HappySlip is the video blog (vlog) of Fil Am Christine Gambito, tapped by Department Of  Tourism last year, to vlog her tour of the Philippines.

The DOT campaign was applauded as an innovative marketing approach. It used the “brand” of a popular Filipina with strong following from 2nd and 3rd generation of Filipinos living in the US and Canada. The job?  Vlog about her experiences as she visits great tourist destinations. And if we will take the news in it’s face value, the influx of tourists is a proof  new media marketing works. What Constitutes Your Brand

You are your brand.

Some people still don’t get it. Some projects a different persona in public, but lives a different life in private.  I do not mean opening your private life for all to see, but in case someone tries to dig a skeleton in your closet, they will find none.

It may not be fair, but sometimes, the stigma of the wrong decisions we made in the past can follow us in the future. For example,  if you had a bad credit history, chances are, you will find it hard to secure a loan from a bank. If you had a bad employment record from your previous employer, you will have a hard time getting a new job. And so on…

Promoting Your Brand (Blog) Offline

Every serious blogger would like his blog to have regular stream of visitors. Even my 8 year old girl requests me to do something to lure more visitors on her site.

And there is only one way to achieve this, promotions.

Online, we have different social networks, forums and e-groups where we can promote our brand. But have we tried promoting our brand offline? Offline promotions can give more exposure to a blog.
