Lessons For Employees (1)

November 27th, 2009

Here are some crumbs of wisdom from the Holy Bible that we can practically apply in our careers. This is a part of a preaching by Pastor Sam Sade more than a year ago in YAMO Hebrews Cafe.  - Redge Manalo

Relating to Coworkers:

1. Develop a reasonable self-estimate

“…Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,”  [Romans 12:3-4 NLT]

2. Acknowledge differences and accept the contributions of others

“Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?”

“But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”

In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen,… If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.”  [1 Corinthians 12:14-24, 26 NLT]

3. Help others but do your job

“If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct.”  [Galatians 6:3-5 NLT]

4. Learn to speak appropriately and sensitively

“Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.” [Colossians 4:6 NLT]

5. Understand others and treat them respectfully

“Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers. Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters.

Take care of any widow who has no one else to care for her.”  [1 Timothy 1-3 NLT]

6. Develop a reputation for good relationships

“Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. 2 They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone”  [Titus 3:1-2 NLT]
