Tithing Is Submission To God’s Authority

July 26th, 2009

I was in church service early this morning, and during the offering time, I was teary eyed when my kids brought their tithe in the altar. It’s not about the religious compliance that I am happy about, but it’s the sincerity and willingness from their heart to give back to God what on the first place belongs to Him.

My kids are like ordinary kids, makulit, pasaway and a lot more. Wifey and myself prays for them regularly to spare them from youthful indiscretions that we have committed, and to protect them from the pressure of drugs, alcohol and sex.

While I was watching them  go to the altar, the Holy Spirit assured me that they will be OK, just keep their heart soft and tender towards tithing.

Tithing is an act of submission to God, after a person is saved and born again, aside from water baptism, this is one decision that will keep their hearts tender and receptive to God. When Christians backslide, it started when they doubt the doctrine of tithing. As soon as a Christian refused to yield what belongs to God, they will soon refused to submit to His authority on the  other areas of his life. Thus, a Christian may be going to church regularly every Sunday, but lives like the devil during weekdays.

Tithing is one of the basic foundation of the relationship. In the Garden of Eden, the tithe is the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And when Eve, then Adam touched it, we know what happened next. Between Cain and Abel, We can see the purity of the heart of Abel because he gave not only the best, but the first fruits (tithe) of the yield of the crops. Cain on the other hand is filled with hatred and envy against his brother because God showed Abel favor. Cain, do not practice tithing.

As parent, we all hope to see our kids spared from the pain we go thru because of wrong decisions. Well, I just receive a piece of advice from God, lead our children in submitting to God’s authority “sincerely”,  not religiously. And one tangible example is returning our tithe.

Praise the Lord for this post! A lot struggle when it comes to giving but when we start to see that this is sacred to GOD, then we’ll learn to obey him with all our hearts. that’s aside from the rewards he HAS promised!
